When Connections Meet Timing
#TBT Maybe 2 years ago not sure.... @dolla.black managed to catch this moment between me and @davidbannerlikespictures . @twaplaya hit me for some work for banner when I was on the road to a @ibeatdaily battle. I hadn’t slept much, I had just got off work AND. it was during Ramadan .I send a pack and went on my way. I go to the battle shaking cuz I haven’t eaten, LOSE in the first round but I didn’t leave...get a pic from Twa wit banner sayin one of the Beats was AMAZING...a minute later the crowd votes me back in the battle as a wildcard.(mind you I was told to bring 15 beats. I brought 25) I end up winning my first battle using all 25 that night. 4 days later me and Dolla got to @patchwerkstudio for a @66rawradio show and banner is there. He walks around greeting everybody and he gets to me and I say “I’m the producer that made that beat you like..from twa”.. he says ok and walks away...gets halfway across the room and looks back and says”you said twa?”..I said yea..he said “WELL WE CAN CASH YOU OUT RIGHT NOW THEN” in front of everybody. And he did so. First “industry” check. Never heard the song but who gives af I got paid lol
As you can see, Avevo would never have gotten this opportunity without grinding it out at a beat battle (despite being physically exhausted), and maximizing his exposure at a 66 Raw broadcast, which allowed him to meet David Banner. Of course, for someone to want Avevo's beat, the quality of his work had to be up there, which is where your actual ability comes in.
When it comes to success in the music industry, this combination of a "no excuses" mentality, active networking, and genuine skill is necessary. There are no shortcuts, but there are always ways to increase your opportunities.
